First, forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not. – Octavia Spencer
For the month of October, I’ve decided to get back on the super early morning bandwagon and retrain myself to start my day at 5:00 am. I did this for years and then slowly started making it a few minutes later and a few minutes later – and before I knew it, I was getting out of bed at 6:30 every day.
I know, I know… 6:30 am is still pretty early and I work for myself from home so there’s no reason to HAVE to wake up super early – but, I do feel that I get way more done in the uninterrupted early morning hours than I do later in the day.
Today is October 1st and I’m typing this at 6:33am. I’m at my computer, working away and it feels really nice to start the month off this way. I like having 1 singular focus for the month – even if it’s a tiny baby step to being healthier, happier, and/or more productive. It feels good to consciously make an effort to develop habits that will improve my life in one way or another.
Here are some reasons I’m committing to this 30 day 5:00am wakeup challenge:
*I work do my best work in complete, uninterrupted silence.
*I’m most creative in the morning. Ideas flow to me early in the day and after 3:00pm I notice a big dip in my creative energy… I’ve been this way since childhood. Once an early bird – always an early bird, I guess…
*Committing to one healthy habit encourages me to be more disciplined in other areas of my life as well.
*Having a set wakeup time creates structure in my day.
Some other things that I’m doing that are related to my wakeup routine:
*Prepping my outfit the night before (including jewelry and makeup)
*Making sure my desk is cleared so that I don’t need to spend time and energy putting things away – I can get straight to work.
